A recovery suit is a soft, body-hugging garment designed to protect wounds, stitches, and sensitive skin after surgery.
Unlike a traditional plastic cone, which can feel stressful or restrictive, a recovery suit offers calm, full-body coverage that allows your pet to move, rest, eat, and sleep more naturally. Many vets now recommend recovery suits as a comfortable, low-stress alternative to the cone.

2. How does a Surgery Suit® help my pet heal?

3. What are the suits made from?

Every BreedFit® suit is crafted from GOTS-certified organic cotton and OEKO-TEX® certified bamboo fibres.
These materials are soft, breathable, eco-conscious, and gentle on shaved or sensitive skin. They also offer natural antimicrobial and moisture-managing properties to help maintain good hygiene.

4. How do I choose the right size for my pet?

We recommend using our Sizing Calculator Tool, which factors in your pet’s breed, weight, and measurements.

5. Can my pet go to the toilet while wearing the suit?

Yes.

Each suit includes an adaptable tummy band that can be opened, folded away, and secured using soft inner Velcro, allowing easy, mess-free toileting. This this helps keep everything clean and protected without removing the suit.

6. Can my pet sleep, eat, drink, and walk normally in it?

Absolutely.

That’s one of the biggest advantages of a recovery suit. Your pet can carry out their normal routine—resting, eating, drinking, and gentle movement—without the stress or limitations caused by a plastic cone.

7. How do I put the suit on my pet?

Start by guiding your pet’s head through the neck opening (ensure toggles are undone). Adjust the toggles to a comfortable fit and secure the safety flap.

Next, place each front leg through the sleeves, guide the suit down the body, and thread the tail through the opening. Wrap the tummy band underneath and secure with Velcro before closing the trapeze. 

8. Is the suit safe for all-day wear?

Yes, provided it fits correctly.

Monitor your pet at least twice daily, especially around the wound area. Ensure the neckline is secure and the fabric isn’t rubbing. If your pet seems uncomfortable or you notice redness, remove the suit and contact your vet for guidance.

9. Can I use absorbent pads inside the suit?

Yes.

Our suits are compatible with optional removable absorbent pads, which can be placed between the two fabric layers in the gusset area for added protection during seasons or light incontinence.

10. How do I wash the suit?

Machine wash on a gentle cycle at 30°C and air dry.

Avoid bleach or fabric softeners, as these can affect the natural fibres. Many owners keep a spare suit on hand so their pet remains protected while one is in the wash.

11. Can the suit replace a cone completely?

In many cases—yes.

However, some pets (especially enthusiastic lickers or those recovering from complex operations) may still need a cone as an extra precaution. Always follow your vet’s advice for your pet’s specific procedure.

12. How quickly do orders arrive?

We aim to dispatch all orders placed before 12:30pm UK time on the same day.

13. Can I return a suit if it doesn’t fit?

For hygiene reasons, we can only accept returns on suits that are unopened, unworn, and in their original packaging.

14. Is the suit suitable for cats as well as dogs?

Yes.

Our all-breed sizing covers both feline and canine body shapes. Cats often find the snug, soft design very comforting, especially compared to a hard plastic cone.
